About Rochester Community Players

Rochester Community Players (RCP) is the oldest theatre group in Rochester, second oldest continuously operating community theatre in New York state, and among the oldest in America.

For more than 100 years, RCP has taken the COMMUNITY in its name seriously by making theatre arts accessible to people in the Greater Rochester area, providing opportunities for taking part in all aspects of play productions, and offering a variety of works that will appeal to diverse audiences and foster community relationships.

As an all-volunteer, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Rochester Community Players is primarily supported by income from ticket sales, donations, and grants. 

Position Overview

RCP is seeking a Social Media Assistant to create content across its social media platforms to publicize productions and events, share volunteer opportunities, engage with followers, and increase awareness of RCP’s unique role in our area’s cultural scene.

James Bader, RCP Board Director and Social Media Coordinator, provides mentoring, guidance, and supervisory support.

Time Commitment

  • Five hours per week.
  • Flexible schedule with occasional evening and weekend availability to capture content.

Responsibilities

Content creation and posting

  • Produce and schedule posts for productions.
  • Create posts to maintain audience engagement between productions.
  • Write captions consistent with RCP’s voice.
  • Manage posting across current RCP platforms—Facebook and Instagram.

Brand & Messaging

  • Ensure content aligns with RCP’s mission and artistic values.
  • Collaborate with show directors, board members, and volunteer leaders to gather information, photos, videos, etc.

Engagement & Community Interaction

  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages.
  • Share relevant information about community groups RCP is working with on productions, events, and other collaborations.

Planning & Strategy

  • Develop simple content calendars for productions, events, and other relevant topics.
  • Track basic engagement metrics to help guide future content.

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook required).
  • Basic photo/video editing skills (e.g., Canva, CapCut).
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Interest in theatre and/or the performing arts a plus.
